For the past few weeks we have been hosting a short term missions team (called the Go Team) here at the Lighthouse Community Center!
This team was sent from YWAM Heidebeek, Holland. This team is made up of 10 young people from Holland, 9 girls and 1 guy. They have been a great blessing to the children and families in the slum in many ways during their time here in Brazil!

The team had a time of evangelism and blessing the children in the community. They handed out cake and cups of soda.
The children from the slum loved singing songs together with the Go Team, playing and spending time together with them!

At that time the followers came to Jesus and asked, "Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
Jesus called a little child to him and stood the child before his followers. Then He said, "I tell you the truth, you must change and become like little children. Otherwise, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child...
Whoever accepts a child in my name accepts Me."

Of course, there was a nice game of football with the kids during this special afternoon!
The Go Team has been helping out here at the Lighthouse Community Center and in the slum of Cafezal in a variety of ways. This team helped lead and organize a few children's programs, one being our annual Olympic Games here at the Lighthouse.
The Go Team has also has gone out into the slum to pray for the community, they have visited and spent time with lots of people living in the slum and also given out donations of clothing and other items to some of the neediest families.
The Go Team also helped us here at the Lighthouse throw a BIG party for the people of the slum. The team decorated and helped run the various games at this family event!

At the party, some boys, who participate in a group here at the Lighthouse, performed special rap songs they had written.
This year, for the first time ever, the Lighthouse Community Center has a special Hip-Hop Rap group where teens can learn how to write hip-hop lyrics while also growing in God. Some boys from this group were SUPER proud to perform their own music for the very first time at our party here at the Lighthouse! We were proud of the boys too!
This is Kadu, who is the teacher/leader of the Hip Hop group. Kadu is a recognized local rapper here in the city of Belo Horizonte. He grew up here in the slum of Cafezal and participated here at the Lighthouse when he was a boy. It is awesome to see how he is now investing in the children of his own community in such a postive way, and using the talents God has given him to be a good influence.
The Go-team has truly been a HUGE blessing to the slum of Cafezal. These impressive young people have served - giving of their lives, time, resources and energy just to serve a needy community in Brazil with the LOVE and CARE of God.
Thank you Go-Team for being the hands and feet of Jesus in this corner of the world.
